I have an old laptop with a failing hard drive and a shorted motherboard. I want to transfer the data from the old hard drive to a new SSD that I bought. The new SSD is empty and has no OS installed. I have another laptop that uses NVMe M.2, so I cannot install the old hard drive or the new SSD inside it. I have USB to SATA adapters that I can use to connect both drives externally. Can I use a cloning software to copy the data from the old hard drive to the new SSD using the other laptop? If so, what are the steps and requirements for doing so?
